What is aromatherapy massage?
Aromatherapy massage combines the physical benefits of Swedish massage with the therapeutic properties of essential oils. Before the session, your therapist will discuss your mood, stress levels, and any particular goals or concerns, then blend or select essential oils suited to your needs.
The oils are diluted in a carrier oil and applied through the same long, flowing strokes used in Swedish massage. The combination of touch and scent creates a treatment that addresses both physical tension and emotional wellbeing.
Choosing the right oils
Different essential oils have different therapeutic properties. Lavender is widely used for relaxation and sleep. Eucalyptus and peppermint are energising and often used for muscular aches. Rose and neroli are frequently chosen for their calming emotional effects. Your therapist will guide you through the options and may blend oils specifically for your session.
What to expect
The consultation before an aromatherapy massage is slightly longer than for a standard Swedish massage, as the therapist needs to understand your needs before selecting oils. The massage itself follows the same format: full body, 60 or 90 minutes, working from the back to the front of the body.
